Bloggy Question 13 — The Incredible Culture

Incredible

For those who come looking for a short, thoughtful read, a blogging life discussion, or a way to gradually ease back into the week, I offer this Blogging Question.

This one starts with a quote from famed choreographer Kenny Ortega, who directed High School Musical, Disney Channel’s incredibly-popular DVD movie that’s a cross between Grease and Dirty Dancing. I found the quote in this weeks’ TV Guide Magazine.

Ortega says, “When I went into rehearsals with the cast, I discovered this incredible group of young people who were so bonded, who so liked one another, who were so ready to have the bar raised and do anything it took to make something special. they came to work on fire. That’s something you can’t buy, teach or direct.”

I’ve felt that at places I’ve worked. It IS incredible. It’s like magic.

What makes a place a culture like that? How does it start? What keeps it going?

What Would You Do?

For those who come looking for a short, thoughtful read, a blogging life discussion, or a way to gradually ease back into the week, I offer this Blogging Question. It’s NOT Hypothetical, tonight it’s a statement of fact.

More Net users would rather give up their cell phones and TVs than their access to the Net.

Internet users are a loyal bunch. The Center for the Digital Future at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School asked Internet users what they would do if forced to give up technologies. Thirty-nine percent of Net users would first abandon their cell phones, 33 percent would switch off their TVs, but only 28 percent would be willing to give up the Net.

So are they talking about you?

Because, yes they are talking about me.

Speed Reading

For those who come looking for a short, thoughtful read, a blogging life discussion, or a way to gradually ease back into the week, I offer this Blogging Question. It’s NOT AT ALL Hypothetical, but I’ll phrase it that way.

On Monday I posed the question in what was a little too hypothetical a fashion. . . . In this update I’ll be straightforward.

Reviewing my stats early this week, I saw someone from one IP had accessed over 25 pages in under 40 minutes.

Today’s winner is 53 pages in 39 minutes, 25 seconds.

I think I’ll track this like a contest. Has anyone got a better string than that?

Hey, Speedy! Stop in and say hello.

What Would You Do?

For those who come looking for a short, thoughtful read, a blogging life discussion, or a way to gradually ease back into the week, I offer this Blogging Question. It’s NOT AT ALL Hypothetical, but I’ll phrase it that way.

New Bloggers, you might listen in carefully on this one. . . .

Suppose you are me. Suppose you are looking at your stats one day recently, and you see someone from one IP has accessed over 25 pages. Suppose that someone has accessed those 25 pages in under 40 minutes.

Now, suppose the IP is a Company IP with a company name. Suppose you can pinpoint the exact city in which the server is located. Suppose you know how to reach the Director of HR and the Director of IT.

What would your response to this situation be?

I’m thinking this person is quite fortunate that I am the nice one. What are you thinking?

If you could take any blogger you’ve never met in person out for dinner, anywhere in the world, who would it be? . . . Where would you go? . . . What would you talk about?

For those who come looking for a short, thoughtful read, a blogging life discussion, or a way to gradually ease back into the week, I offer this Blogging Hypothetical Question.

We’ve been talking a bit about favors lately. That’s what this question is about. Here you go. . . .

You’re outgoing and helpful to everyone. You do favors all of the time. You understand that relationships make the world go around, and you want to be part of the world. You’re fairly free with your link love, and you let people know about someone who’s done a great job by posting about it.

In fact you’re so nice, you make me look like a piker. :)

You come up with a really good idea and ask a friend–someone on your blogroll, someone you did a favor for just last week–to mention what you’re doing in her next post. She tells you to eat her dust. No way.

What do you do?

The Bloggy Questions!

That very long Take the Keys Post reminded me that we haven’t done a Bloggy Life Question for a while now. We used to do talk about one every Sunday night to ease back into the week — but nothing’s wrong with Monday. Is there? . . . especially a hard Monday back after a holiday weekend?

Okay, here’s the question . . .

What’s your response as a reader to a blog where the blog writer uses a pseudonym, writes in character, and never reveals who he or she is? Does it bother you or could you care less?

People keep asking me What does a blog network offer a blogger?

I suppose that I should expect to get this question more than most people might. I always have trouble explaining my answer, because my answer is unique to who I am.

Today it hit me. The question isn’t right. The question should be:

What does a being part of a blog network offer READERS?

Old MS Book

Last week I was emailing with Anthony Dever and I told him that I had been struck with a great title for a blogging book.

American Edition:
If You Think MY Blog Is a Personal Diary, I think your swimsuit came from Gym Class.

World Edition:
If You Think MY Blog Is a Personal Diary, I think your wine comes in a box.

What would your blogging book title be?

For those who come looking for a short, thoughtful read, a blogging life discussion, or a way to gradually ease back into the week, I USUALLY offer a Blogging Hypothetical Question.

This one’s for real.

Here you go. . . .

What community service might the NEW and IMPROVED Successful Blog offer you? Should the focus be more on the SUCCESSFUL and less on the BLOG? Or is that right as it is?

We can take this blog in a world of directions as long as we stick to three words–success, community, and readers.

You’ve passed me some fabulous ideas earlier that I’m working on, and I’ve come up with a few of my own. But I want to unroll this new version really right.

We have a chance to make something unique here–something outstanding that makes your life easier–a community blog that actually does something for you.

What a concept! What might that something be?
